Membership FAQs

Is my organization eligible for membership?
SEC-registered investment adviser firms are eligible to join the IAA as members with full access to IAA member benefits and resources. Firms must endorse the IAA’s Standards of Practice as a condition of membership.

Are there any conditions of membership?
Yes, IAA membership is available only to SEC-registered investment advisers who meet the below criteria:

  • A minimum of one year in business as an investment adviser
  • A minimum of $25 million in regulatory assets under management
  • Endorsement of the IAA's Standards of Practice

How do I become a member?
Your firm becomes a member by completing and submitting a membership application. Once we review and approve the application and receive payment, we will notify you that the membership has been activated and provide further details on your benefits.

How much does membership in the IAA cost?
The IAA has varying membership dues levels – all based on regulatory assets under management. For more information contact IAA’s Vice President, Membership, Alain Taylor, at or at (202) 507-7200.

How long does membership last?
IAA membership is for a 12-month period. For the first year of membership dues are prorated on a monthly basis. Annual memberships renew on January 1.

Where can I find an application to join the IAA?
You can complete a membership application and either email, fax or mail it back to the IAA.

Does the IAA offer membership to organizations that are not SEC-registered investment adviser firms?
Yes, the IAA offers associate membership to law firms, accountants, consultants, vendors, state-registered investment advisers, or other entities concerned with the interests of SEC-registered investment advisers. Associate members receive many, but not all, of IAA’s member benefits. Does the IAA offer individual memberships?
Membership in the IAA is firm-based; the IAA does not offer individual memberships.
