AMG Shines Light on ESG Opportunities
May 4, 2022
Active Managers Council Steering Committee member AMG released two new blog posts on active management and ESG investing.
In “Five Questions Every Advisor Should Ask Their Clients About ESG Investing,” author Kevin Cooper, Head of Investment Research, writes that ESG can “be a big opportunity for advisors—if they ask their clients the right questions.” He explains how ESG opportunities have changed and how ESG investing can help mitigate portfolio risk.
In “What Critics Get Wrong—and Right—About ESG Investing,” author Leah Turino of Boston Common Asset Management discusses some of the improvements in ESG investing strategies and some of the pitfalls that still exist. She writes that ESG investing must welcome scrutiny to challenge assumptions and that the full ESG investment spectrum “must be more transparent and better aligned” to silence critics who charge that ESG is not delivering on promised change.
She explains that while some ESG managers are falling behind in areas like “misaligned proxy votes” and “voting overwhelmingly in support of excessive CEO pay,” other firms are getting it right by “backing up what they say with what they do.”
